TBD Off Forest Rd 2149 Iron River, MI 49935

SECLUDED UPPER PENINSULA OF MICHIGAN CABIN LOCATED ON 233+/- ACRE PARCEL WITH PRIVATE LAKE! This property is located in the far southwestern corner of the northern rectangle of Bates Township in Iron County, in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. The property is surrounded by Ottawa National Forest Lands - This National Forest offers access to a million-acre of wilderness forest lands for boating, camping, picnicking, fishing, hiking, hunting, kayaking, skiing and other outdoor activities! The area was occupied by Native Americans prior to the arrival of White settlers, who came to the area for farming, logging and iron mining in the late 1800s. Logging activities began in 1875, and lumber mills became important contributors to the area’s economy. Iron ore exploration began in 1880, and the first iron mine just west of the Bates area, an open-pit operation called the Nanaimo Mine, opened in 1881. The greatest early concentration of permanent farm settlements took place when land became available through an over-selection of grant lands. The settlers who carved their homes out of the wilderness were mainly of Scandinavian, Polish and French stock. The head of many families worked in the area mines and cleared lands and built buildings between their work shifts. Many relatives and descendants of pioneer families are still living in the Township today. The economy of Bates Township is resource-based. Iron mining was big around the turn of the 20th century. More recently, forestry has overtaken mining, and service industries related to tourism are important. This is a prime destination for recreation, especially boating on its many lakes and snowmobiling on its network of trails that connect with other trails across the Upper Midwest. The township is traversed by the State Line Trail multi-use route that is a state-designated snowmobile trail in winter and primarily an off-road vehicle (ORV)/all-terrain vehicle (ATV) trail in other seasons. The Iron River to Crystal Falls Trail, a section of the Iron Range Trails system, transects Bates Township along an old railroad corridor through bogs, lakes and forests and is a popular route for snowmobiles and all-terrain vehicles (ATVs). This trail can be accessed in the township at Lake Emily, where parking is available. The property offered for sale is surrounded by lakes and ponds of all sizes, as well as miles of streams. Perch Lake, two miles to the west of the property is the largest water body in the County, with 994 acres. This lake has good numbers of Walleyes, Northern pike, Largemouth bass and Perch. The Hanna Webb Lake a mile south of the property, is one of the Brook Trout Better Fishing Waters as designated by the Michigan Department of Natural Resources (DNR). The property offered for sale has frontage on beautiful private Roscoe Lake! This lake is about 8 acres in size, and about 12-Feet deep and is surrounded by mature pine.
